about

All of the tracks on Dry Signal were created in real-time on a Boss DR-770 drum machine, with no external sound processing or looping devices. Since 2004, most of my musical focus has involved processing the sounds of this instrument through pitch shifters, filters, distortion and time-manipulation devices. This time, I wanted to see if I could make an interesting album using only the device's internal sounds and capabilities.
A few of the tracks are even more limited than that: "Thumper" uses only kick drum sounds. Both "The Other Shoe to Drop" and "Through a Rainy Window" start with the exact same sound on all the pads, and they are tuned and changed as each song is performed. Lastly, "Standard" uses only the machine's first default drum kit, which is also called "Standard".
